BOOK OF THE YEAR 2024 - Sherri Bryant Reviews

SLAUGHTERHOUSE wins big accolade from Sherri Bryant Reviews!

"2024 was a fantastic reading year. I struggled to pick the favorite from the top four because they were so good and I highly recommend all of them. My #1 favorite book for the year is Slaughterhouse by K.A. Lugo. This book was chosen because the main character has a lot of mileage on my heart. I've been to hell and back with this character, tears and laughter. There's also a lot of hope that this character will find the justice he deserves and has been waiting and searching for. Much love, praise and gratitude to the very talented K.A. Lugo for this book and for the others in the Jack Slaughter series." - Sherri Bryant Reviews

With the holidays near this book made me happy to be me. I really felt for Jack as memories of past Christmases with his wife and daughter swamped him. Long walks with the only purpose to “get away” from those thoughts lead him to a situation the book’s title no doubt came from. I now know a bit more about Jack but also still want more so do hope there will be a book three in the future.

Why Reviews Are Important

Like most authors, we love receiving comments from readers about our books. They're more than just an ego-stroke...or a smack on the head. What you think about our work is valuable in so many ways. Among them:

1) Reviews tell us how we're doing. Did we write a good plot, are our characters believable or even likable, do we have an engaging 'voice', did the story keep you up late reading, etc?

2) Reviews help other readers decide if we're worth the investment of their time and money?

3) Reviews enable us to be accepted onto many paid promotion services. Without reviews, we can't get onto those promotional services, and without being able to promote, we have little hope of reaching new readers. It's a catch-22, for sure.

4) The more reviews a book has on a service like Amazon, the higher up the book goes on their search results. Also, Amazon is more likely to add those books in their daily email recommendations. And not just the one book. If it's part of a series, Amazon is likely to recommend all the book in the series in those emailings.

5) The more places your review appears (Amazon, Apple iBooks, Kobo, Nook, Smashwords, any number of blogs, etc), the higher the book will appear on online searches (Google, Yahoo, Bing, Ask, etc). This makes the author even more 'discoverable.'

So you can see, your comments are important. Unfortunately, a vast majority of readers who may *read* reviews won't actually write them. Why?

1) Length. There's a perception that a review has to be long and drawn out. They don't. While professional reviewers may include a preamble of what the story is about, the actual reader comments are all that's needed. And they don't have to be long...a couple sentences will usually suffice.

2) Time. Another perception that reviews take a long time to write. They don't. Imaging you're telling your friend about a book you just read and they might enjoy. Just giving them a couple reasons will usually get their interest. It's the same for book reviews

3) Someone else will do it. Sadly, too many have this perception. In my experience, for every 1000 book sales I earn, only four or five reviews are posted. That's 995 readers who think someone else will post a review. I know authors who earn thousands of sales per month but still have very few reviews on Amazon, or even Goodreads. Reviews are like a cat box. No one else is going to clean if it you live alone. You're the only reader so you're the only one who can write a review based on how you felt about the book.

Over and above any logical reason why readers should write book reviews, it's a great way to engage with authors you enjoy reading. And if you follow them on social media, you're more likely to get some insider news on upcoming titles.

Thank you to the readers who've posted reviews for my book, and to the two new reviews I've received over the weekend:

What a roller-coaster ride . . . I can’t put the book down; can’t turn the pages fast enough the story has evolved and gotten really good . . . Great characters, lots of action . . . and a book good enough that you can’t put it down. ~ Kathy, Our Town Book Reviews

Hard-Edged Thriller! K.A. Lugo hits a homerun . . . This story grabs the reader from the start and its one fast and intense ride, so hold on tight! ~ Sherri Bryant, The Bookworm News and Reviews

AVAILABLE NOW!

I'm so excited to announce that SLAUGHTERED is now AVAILABLE!

Slaughtered is the first book in the Jack Slaughter Thrillers series. It's been a long time coming, but it's finally here.

Thank you to all who preordered. And thank you to that wonderful team behind me, that without them, this book may never have seen the light of day: from the wonderful ladies on my Facebook page who helped name some of my victims, to my beta readers, my editor, cover artist, and all my friends and family. And especially B.A. Richardson who helped me keep my legal and technical details in check. Thank you all!

I hope you will enjoy reading the story as much as I enjoyed writing it. Jack was both an easy and difficult character to flesh out. He's a complex man, but I've really come to intimately know him, and I'm sure you will too.

Reviews have been coming in, and are currently posted on Goodreads, and here on the book's page. Thank you so much to readers for advance reads and reviews. They're so appreciated!

Grab your copy now for just 99c/99p across all of the Amazon sites, or you can get your copy for free on Kindle Unlimited/KU.

And please be sure to share your feelings on the story when you've read Jack's story.

Happy reading, friends!!

First review in!

The first review has come in for Slaughtered!!

Title Slaughtered (A Jack Slaughter Thriller)
Author K.A. Lugo
Publisher Tirgearr Publishing

Review from Gail Northman Avid read from the UK

Jack Slaughter is an ex cop living on the edge. His world came tumbling down after a catastrophic event that destroyed him and eventually his job as a homicide cop. Recommended by Ray, his ex partner and bestfriend, he takes on a missing person’s case, a woman who mysteriously disappears from her home leaving everything behind. A scenario that is all too familiar to Jack. Since the event that lost him everything important, he has been tormented by what Jack calls ‘The Texter’ leading him to the crime scenes of missing unidentified women who have been brutally murdered. As he investigates his missing persons case and that of his own, it becomes apparent there are possible connections that cannot be ignored.

From the very start, this first book about Jack Slaughter is a page-turner. K. A. Lugo will have you rooting for Jack as he is forced to remember the past that changed everything. Shocking at times, gruesome as the body count rises. K.A. cleverly leads the reader down the path of  Jack’s investigation, giving away nothing until ready to do so.

A thoroughly engaging, edge of your seat thriller that rates high up there with the likes of  Lee Child, James Patterson, Tess Gerritson, Sandra Brown, Karen Rose, John Grisham etc; you can see where I am going with this.

First class writing, I look forward to reading many more books by K. A. Lugo in what I hope is a not to distant future.

Thank you, Gail! I'm so happy you enjoyed Slaughtered.
