It's been four years since Jack Slaughter lost his family, and clues to finding those responsible have dried up. Anger and hopelessness have Jack so tightly-wound that he's often driven out of his claustrophobic apartment before the ever-present black dog of depression drags Jack's sanity to a place where there's no coming back.
Black Friday - While walking off his anxiety, Jack hears gunfire. Instincts kick in and he runs toward the sound to find a woman dying in an alley. When officers arrive on the scene, Jack becomes their prime suspect, as he's found crouched over the woman with her blood on him. He needs to find the witness he's sure he saw in the shadows to prove his innocence.
Work during the holidays is slow and Jack likes it that way. But the wife of one of the city's most elite families wants to hire Jack to follow her husband, Franklin Whitney-Cummings. She suspects he's cheating on her and needs photos to get around the strict prenup. When she offers to double his fee, how can he refuse? The husband leads Jack across the city to the Majestic Lounge, the Castro District's most popular gay nightclub. By the time he finds the husband in the club, Jack is forced to break up a heated argument between the husband and club owner, Chad Lucas.
The following morning, Lucas turns up at Jack's apartment, wanting to hire him for added security during the club's popular annual Drag Queen Extravaganza. However, the event's usual excitement is marred when several of Lucas' friends and patrons turn up dead. Authorities are calling each death a suicide, but when Lucas convinces Jack something more nefarious is going on, he agrees to the security gig.
Does the city have another serial killer, one who's targeting the LGBTQ community? Could his own witness be the killer? And how is Franklin involved?
